Jennifer, dive into the ALA list called Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult
Readers. You'll find them at the ALA site under Awards, or just do a Google search
on Quick Picks. There are actually TWO Quick Picks lists--the whole list and the
Top Ten each year. Another list that your teachers might appreciate is the Michael
L. Printz Award, which is the "Newbery for Teens." And then Popular Paperbacks
list gives great lists already divided by themes.
Give the kids a great book--like Ender's Game--and you'll get them to read
for a day. Teach them to find great books at the ALA site, and you'll get them
reading for a lifetime. (to paraphrase a cliche)

My teachers are screaming for suggestions for high-interest recreational reading.
They are tired of doing the "boring classics" and want some contemporary titles
that will appeal to high school students. One teacher has assigned Orson Scott
Card's Ender's Game to her whole class as their free reading book. The students are
loving it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
