I actually love the concept of sharing the best and worst of one day.
Today's best would include the brand-new to our school and visually
impaired student leaping up to wrap his arms around my neck after
hearing Mercer Mayer's There's a Nightmare in My Closet. He came in
just as our story was beginning with our prek. After the teacher
introduced him to me, he promptly sat down at my feet and told her to
go away and come back after story. One of the other students who
barely speaks English and nervously pulls out her hair, chose a
duplicate copy of the book to check out, patted the book and said,
"Be friends. Not scary." Baby steps in our love of reading.
The worst moment: a victim of our success with seemingly everyone
dropping in with something to do. The waves of students needing
assistance are followed by waves of teachers needing training
followed by administrators needing help and parents needing just a
moment. Sometimes you can feel like you are bobbing on the waves.
