Good afternoon,

I am seeking answers to something that is puzzling me. Each year I am
required to print out an inventory list by grade and subject. So in my
catalog record in the 521a field I should always put the grade level the
book is at. When I print out the inventory list for each grade by
subject (ie; 1 Language Arts, 2 Language Arts, 3 Language Arts etc.)
there should be a list of books falling in each category. I had been
dutifully entering the grade levels as given by SLJ etc. but there is a
problem. Actually 2 but one has been temporarily handled.

I have been told that the state board requires that each book is
cataloged in only one grade level and cannot be duplicated in any other
grade. But my questions is how am I supposed to put a book that falls
into multiple grade levels (ie; 9-12 or 5-7) into just one? Can anyone
either tell me that this is absurd or tell me how you keep your
inventories?

I just don't get it. And if I'm not explaining this very well I
apologise.
