[LM_NET] No Games for Me, Thanks!

Well, I'm depressed....I did a sample survey of my high school students to 
determine if they would be interested in things like graphic novels, manga, anime, 
or even a gaming competition (DDR, Karaoke Revolution---or even Mario Cart)...and 
learned that my kids DON'T want to participate in or are NOT interested in having 
these types of things made available to them in the library---regardless of the 
fact we are open 8-5 five days a week and between 2-5 on Sunday afternoons!

After attending two really cool "gaming" conferences, gathering graphic novel 
resources, and planning time (and getting approval for doing some of these things), 
I learned that the kids said that these things are "for the geeks"....not them.  In 
fact, the majority of kids sent me to the "computer club" (a small group) to see if 
they might be interested.  However, this group is comprised of mostly seniors and 
next year's group will be smaller.  Not enough to really get things started because 
this group likes to develop programs---and I'm trying to "play games!"

How sad....I was so eager to provide some really neat programming that I'd seen in 
other libraries (especially in public libraries), but my kids don't even like video 
games!  In fact, when I asked impromptu, "what's your favorite video game"....most 
said, "I don't play video games!"

Again...so sad...I just bought my own Nintendo DS (with The Brain Game) and I love 
challenging myself--- keeping the "grey matter" up-to-speed ---playing speed math 
games, timed-reading games, Sudoku, and verbal-visual games.  

Does anyone else have this problem....or is this a quirk in the private school 
---or maybe just mine???
