It is my pleasure to announce the list of titles selected by the 2006
Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults committee. PPYA looks at up to five
categories of books currently available in paperback and, unlike any
other ALA selection committee, is not concerned with the best of a
particular year, rather the best titles that fit a particular categorty
drawn from any publication year. These lists, available on the ALA
website at
http://www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/booklistsawards/popularpaperback/06ppya.htm
(and YALSA members may access an annotated version), are designed to
introduce teens, librarians, and other interested adults to a wide
variety of titles within a particular genre or interest area, with an
emphasis on popularity and exposing teens to books that they would be
interested in reading if they had some interest in one or more of the
categories. It is the hope of the committee that our lists will be used
as category builders, backlist promotions, and display opportunities in
libraries throught the country.
For more information about PPYA, or to nominate titles for the 2007
lists, please visit the YALSA website. For questions or comments about
this year's titles, please contact me.
