I have found the exact same reaction from my colleagues and friends since I left
the
classroom to become the high school librarian four years ago.
I explain as politley as I can that the library is the hub of the school, that I
have not
given up teaching, that being a librarian to me is a purer form of teaching, etc. I
am
constantly amazed, as you are, that well educated, seemingly intelligent people
continue to make these remarks.
Let's face it, librarians are a misunderstood lot. We must continue to enlighten
the
masses. It is my secret belief that I have the best job in the school, and the
teachers
who make those remarks are all jealous that they were not smart enough to consider
a degree in library science.Denise Moore
