I have a parent that would like their child read books that demonstrate how rich
our student's lives are and that they should be thankful for what they have
available to them each day. She feels her child is spoiled and her child doesn't
realize how good she has it. The first book I thought of was Shiloh because in this
story there isn't enough money to have a dog. I am to try to have a list of books
that take place in today's time period - she doesn't want Holocaust or Great
Depression themes because they are too far back in history. I am a middle school
library so I do not have too many picture stories or easy readers. This child is an
average reader so any book on a 4th through 8th grade reading level would be
wonderful. Thank you so much. I will post a hit if there is interest.
