Alice Yucht suggested that people attending library related conferences report on
the conference. So here goes... (I broke the post into two sections for lenght.
I attended the NECC conference in Philadelphia. NECC is the National Educational
Computing Conference and is sponsored by ISTE (International Society for Technology
in Education). You can learn more at the ISTE website www.iste.org and more about
NECC in particular at www.iste.org/necc.
Next year's NECC conference will be in San Diego, July 4 - 7. Watch the ISTE Site
for registration, you get a discount for registering early. If you have a chance to
go, it is a very worthwhile conference.
At the conference I did run into several members of our community while wearing my
LM_NET gear. Hopefully they will also have time to report. Some of our other
members were presenters, Doug Johnson and Joyce
Valenza to name two.
While the conference focus is on use of technology in education, I estimate at over
half of the sessions covered useful information that would still be useful without
"technology". For example; Literacy (Information, Visual, and traditional reading
and writing), Critical Thinking across the curriculum, and Leadership issues are
issues that can be addressed with or without technology.
Some "techie" sessions covered things like podcasting, online learning, web page
desgin and tech toys.
You can access the program guide, search for topics and see what sessions were
available or do a search for topics of interest. Go to
http://center.uoregon.edu/ISTE/NECC2005/
click on program search. Many of the presenters have handouts available online and
you can find those sites from the program guide. For example, one session;
The Good, the Bad, & The Ugly: School Library Media Center Web Pages has the
handout and presentation available at;
