I have Carol Simpson's copyright book but apparently loaned it to someone
because I cannot find it. I did do some other searching but didn't find
what I am looking for (maybe I am not using the right search terms).
Anyway, if you happen to have Carol's book handy, would you see if this
issue is covered. I can then use that to further my search for the "legal"
statements needed.
The question; Art student used an image in a magazine as the basis for a
painting. This was done as an art assignment. The student "copied" the
image from the magazine but as a painting so it isn't an exact copy.
Another teacher admires the painting and wants to buy it from the student..
The Art teacher wants to know if this is legal.
I think this would count as a derivitive work so I am looking for something
that would address this but most of what I found for derivitive work are
things like copying cartoons as a wall mural etc.
