It isn't the ipso facto 'it's in print, therefore it is good' or that 'we need to
teach the importance of print in every research
project', but rather a need to establish a level of quality of information. Print
TENDS to be easier to be evaluated as quality,
though I wonder if a certain amount of that is simply bias.
Then also, there is the 'which Internet are you talking about?' question. A
newspaper article on paper is the same as the copy in
the database or on their website. And Google, et al will often find it as quickly
(or more) than trudging through a DB front end.
Research results and policy reports are often much easier to access online than to
find a print copy.
There was a recent thread on Web4Lib discussing how to teach undergraduates how to
use DB. The instructor was having a problem in
that students were finding the answers quicker in Google than through the
University resources.....
