Here's another suggestion for checking in books:
I have the teachers send down the books early in the AM. I usually have a parent
volunteer or my aide check in the books and run an overdue list. So when the kids
arrive, I have the lists ready to read off to them at circulation time. A few
usually bring the books with them but it's easy to check them off the list. This
method frees me up (especially when I am alone in the afternoons) to spend all my
time with the kids.
