Dear LM_NETTERS,
I need your suggestions once again.I was reading in the archives about various
situations encountered on challenged books. Well, I have quite a few books being
challenged by a
teacher in my own high school. I guess I made the mistake of sending out periodice
notices to the staff about new materials as we get them in the media center. This
teacher, rather than coming to me, went directly to the Asst. Superintendant of
Instruction with her complaints. He, of course, inquired how I select my books. I
told him a few were suggested by the
counselors (AA book, Queer Kids, Two Teenagers) and others by kids and the public
library. He said that I should select all books approved by the ALA. I am asking
for your help, as I know you all have more experience than I do, as this is only my
second year as a LMS. These are the books in question. He wants me to send him
reviews and criteria for
selection by ALA, which I can't get, of course. Please give me your opinions.
Queer Kids: The Challenges and Promise for Lesbian, Gay, and
Bisexual Youth - Robert Owens
The Annotated AA Handbook: A Companion to the Big Book
Sons of Dark: Outcast - Lynne Ewing
Two Teenagers in Twenty: Writings by Gay & Lesbian Youth - Ann Heron
Dungeon Masters Guide Core Rulebook
Monster Manual Core Rulebook
Players Handbook Core Rulebook
Thank You in advance.
