We got our Academic Performance Index (API- state) and Adequate Yearly =
Progress (AYP- federal) results today at our faculty meeting. Our =
school, which 5 years ago was at or near the bottom in the county, had =
the top API score of any high school in and around our county. We =
scored a 675 (scale of 1000, 800 being the goal for all schools). We =
had an increase of 53 points. That's our second consecutive year with a =
50 point gain. We also met all 22 AYP targets (all 5 schools in our =
district made AYP). Our school is 85% free lunch and about 75% second =
langauge learners. We rock! =20
Our secret, IMHO, a school-wide emphasis on reading (Sustained Silent =
Reading, AR, 2 and 3 hour remedial English and ELL classes), aligning =
courses to the state standards, and, of course, a strong library program =
;-).
