Like many libraries, we use Ebsco or other jobbers to set up and renew
magazine subscriptions. Even so, we get tons of renewal notices, since the
publishers apparently don't know that we don't subscribe directly through
them.
which brings up another beef I have with publishers of magazines. Not only
do they bombard us for renewals months before a subscription expires, but
they offer prizes for renewals too. But because we don't order from them
directly, we get no prizes. My subscriptions (and my money) go in in April
for the following school year's subscriptions. Whatever price the jobber
offers is what we pay. No prizes, no special deal. Then in September and
October we get letters with all kinds of toys offered. As regular customers
how come we aren't ever rewardeed for our faithfulness (and early renewals)?
