I couldn't agree with Marie more -- I guess my advice could be summed up =
in the phrase - "go with the flow" Halloween was a mess - most students =
were in costume- and conducting a class was next to impossible. Today is =
election day and they are all discussing that - so this morning I =
allowed more spirited debate than usual. Other days - the library is an =
oasis of quiet - so it all works out in the end. I guess you have to =
remember "and this too shall pass" - I have always preached in my =
Graduate school classes - lose the item- lose the rule - but don't lose =
your patience or the student. Be careful of humor - what you think is a =
funny quip may sound like an insult to a young adult. Also, let them =
have their love affairs, their fights- their upsets - but remember you =
are the adult - you are the professional - you are not their best buddy.

I say ditto to Dr. Cuseo's comment. "you" are the most essential=20
element; everyone is your customer. Keep a welcome atmosphere. =
You'll find=20
your needs as you talk with anyone; this is my first year as an LMS =
and=20
I have so much I want to do and so little time; I am happy because I=20
know how to "stop" and let it flow; I know how to have another life. =
I=20
love my work; and I'd say my relations with students and faculty and=20
admin is most important. I always take breaks from my computer to =
help=20
others; I'm not getting the work done at the computer that I want to =
get=20
done, but I am working on my relations and helping my customers. Good =
luck.
