Target: Quote greatness

Please help!  I am looking for a quote I read recently in a popular
magazine… Glamour? Cosmo?
            It was something like… in your effort to be the same you lose
your chance at greatness???  I even noticed it was attributed to a lady with
a date in the early 1900s.  I meant to write it down because it was so good!
What can I say?  I have a mind like a steel sieve!
