This is from a front-page article about the federal budget deficit
situation, in today's Wall Street Journal:
"Mr. Bush's much-touted 'No Child Left Behind' education law is spawning
rebellions in the states -- and among their representatives in Congress --
for the testing and hiring mandates it imposes on local school districts
without the federal aid envisioned. Virginia's Republican-controlled House
of Delegates last week passed a resolution condemning the law and asking to
be exempted. Vermont has turned down federal funds rather than comply. Utah
may do so, too. Washington and several other states are weighing similar
action."
In view of the recent exchanges here about NCLB, I thought this would be of
interest.
