Reading all the comments on dress codes reminds me of my first job back at the NYPL
in late 1969. Pants for women were just being introduced into the workforce at that
time. The library decided to allow pants only if part of a professional looking
pants suit. That soon degenerated to any kind of pants you wanted to wear with the
exception of jeans.
Where I work now there is no real dress code for teachers. It is up to the
principal to decide if someone is dressed inappropriately. I have to confess that
some of the late Spring outfits often look like they belong on the beach.
On a moring television show recently a male anchor led into a story by asking the
female anchor if there were more pants than dresses in her wardrobe. She said more
pants and I think that most working women would agree. How far we've come in 35
years.
