Hello All,
I have already searched the archives and was not able to find help with my
particular problem. I have recently stepped into a middle school library position
that services approximately 1,200 students in grades 6 - 8. Unfortunately, from
what I have seen in the past two weeks the library has not been weeded, ever, and
the day-to-day practices fall far short of anything that I ever learned in library
school.
The principal adamantly believes that "you never throw away a book, you can always
send it to some disadvantaged third world nation". Also many of the books are so
old that I'm afraid that I might be inadvertantly throwing away some book that
actually might have some value.
Is there a way to find out if a book has some value to a collector and what are
some ways to get rid of materials that you would like to discard, other than
actually trashing it?
According to the head of library services there is no official policy on weeding or
discarding weeded materials that is in effect.
"It is only possible to live happily ever after on a day-to-day basis."
