Can we get off of this? Yes, the wages earned by social workers who like those of
us in school and some public libraries get paid from the public purse and yes the
benefits of belonging to professional organizations are well worth the price paid.
The problem comes when you work in an environment where you get paid considerably
less than the standard pay level for the profession. This is the case for the
original poster who works for a parochial school for far less than one makes in the
public sector. Ever wonder how the voucher suporters get those figures about
greater student success for lower per pupil expense? There are public librarians
in a lot of small towns across this country who also get paid less than half the
"professional" standard with no health care benefits, etc.
Staying alive and putting food on the table or pay professional dues which would
you choose?
