Dear LM_Netters,
Accelerated Reader got a late start in our building this year, due to
renovations in the computer lab and the library. We didn't begin until the
2nd quarter. To kick off the restart of the program, I decided to do
something I have never done before--I am having a contest for students.
When I went to BookExpo in May, I picked up a bunch of free manga, and when
I went to ALA, I got some more. A lot of my middle school students,
especially, love manga, but it isn't really practical for me to buy it for
the library for various reasons. So I decided to use them as giveaways in
the contest. The way I'm doing it is this: every time a student passes an
AR test, his or her name will be entered (if they have expressed interest).
This will go until the end of December, and when I return in January, I will
pick 8 winners to choose a free manga from what I have available. What I
can't decide is, how to keep track of the names. Should I just make a list
of everyone who has expressed interest, and then check how many AR tests
they've passed at the end of the month, or would it be more effective to
have a physical bucket or something that names can be put in? This is my
first time doing anything like this, and I really want it to go well.
Thanks,
Erin L. Bush
