Try Jamake Highwater, Anpao, sometimes referred to as a "Native American
Odyssey." It has lots of NA culture and is a beautiful story. You might
also look into Joseph Bruchac, who has done lots of picture books, and a
few YA's, plus his memoirs called Bowman's Store, about growing up without
even knowing of his NA heritage because of the terrible prejudice against
NA's in the 50's. BTW he's a fabulous storyteller for all levels.
