Looking for a book

Hi all.  A third grade student came to me today looking for a book and he
really has me stumped.  He thinks the book is by Van Allsburg but he's not
positive.  The story is about a boy who falls asleep and in his dream his
mother leaves him a note to wash the dishes and do all of this housework.
The student remembers that the boy in the story also goes skiing with his
sister who appears to be a giant because the boy has shrunk in the dream.
The boy also stands next to a large bookcase in the story.
Ring any bells?  Not for me.  Please help.
