I realize what you meant in your post when you used “gifted children to
special ed” as if it were a range. In actuality however, “gifted“ does
not exclude the possiblilty of needing “special ed” I teach at a
regional gifted center in Chicago where all of our students have been
identified as gifted. We still have a special ed teacher, for we have
children with various learning disabilities that require adaptations in
our curriculum or in our expectations for these children.
My concern is, that if we think of “gifted to special ed” as a range, we
will forget the very real possibility of gifted children with special needs.
