Hello, Amy and Group,
I'm responding to your post as a long-time user of LM_NET. Even though I
haven't always gotten the exact answers that I've looked for, most of the
time I have. Also, people respond in a timely manner if they can. Remember
that many times, your question is posted at a time when people may not be
online regularly or you may catch them at a particularly busy time. They
may do as I do and just flag a message to get back to it if it requires some
records searching that I can't do immediately. As to your questions, let me
comment on each one.

Many schools do not have security systems. The administrators may look at
book theft as mine did: It's cheaper to buy and replace books than it is to
purchase an expensive security system OR the library may have too many
doors to be efficiently secured OR students look at a security system as a
challenge to be beaten -- which, with a bit of ingenuity, they can do.

This is a big problem with most upper level schools, I think. If you will
check the archives, you will probably find a discussion on book theft. I
believe I remember asking about the same thing myself a number of years ago.
Also, this answer will probably require a look-up in records and may take
some time before people get back to you.
Good luck on your proposal. Theft in a library is really frustrating,
mainly because the theft involves items that *everyone* needs or enjoys!
