Registration for the 1999 Summer Institute for School Librarians is now
being accepted.  Participants may register by printing out the following
registration form and mailing it to the Kansas Dept. of Education.
Registration will be available on Blue Skyways soon.


Mark your calendars for the third annual Summer Institute. The 1999
program will be
OPENING THE LIBRARY: READING STRATEGIES AND WEB PAGE DEVELOPMENT.
The two day program will be JUNE 17 - 18 at the Butler County Community
College facility in Andover, Kansas.  Located 5 miles east of Wichita.

Registration will be limited to 45 participants. The registration will
cover all programs, materials and food breaks. Lunches will not be
provided but there will be assistance with area restaurants and hotels.

Among the topics to be discussed:
Thursday:
    Collection Development for Reading Programs
    Accelerated Reader/Reading Renaissance
    Lexile Framework
    Second Grade Diagnostics
    State Assessments
    Sustained Silent Reading
    Online Database selection
Friday:
Developing a Local Web Page - Absolute Beginners, Beginners and
Intermediate Sessions;
leave with a web page for your library built and ready to post.

Registration forms will be available by March 1st via the list.
Conference fee:  $100.00
Participants may choose to take the program for one or two hours of
college credit
through Emporia State University's School of Library and Information
Management.
Extra assignments will be given by  ESU-SLIM. Tuition is $105.00 per
credit
hour in addition to the $100 conference fee.
