Dear Colleagues: What would you do?
I agreed to preview 2 videos from a small film company for possible
school library purchase.
I lent one overnight to a school reading tutor. She is working with a
small group of students using a book on the same topic as the movie. I've
lent videos, both homemade and commercial, overnight or a holiday to staff
before, without a problem. She had car trouble in a bad Philadelphia
neighborhood. She left the car for a few minutes to get some help and
someone took her bookbag from the floor by the back seat. It contained a
number of books and the video. The video has not been paid for yet and
costs $99. She is a para-professional and does not make a large salary. She
has offered to pay for it. I feel terribly for her because she sounded so
distressed over both losing it this way and having to pay so much for it.
Are there any other options? I don't get my budget money for a
couple more months and I can't pay for a video with it that I don't have.
Any thoughts?
                                        Sandy P. in Philly
P.S. All who have seen the videos, including myself, really like them. But
they are a bit expensive. I understand this somewhat because the company
has only produced 8 videos so far, several of which have been nominated for
awards, and some have received awards.
