GEN: Book Fair buy 1 get 1

I guess this is my month for questions, so here's another:  I've been debating
whether or not to go with the book fair plan which gives kids a book of equal
or lesser price for each book purchased.  I use Scholastic, and am comfortable
with them.  My most active customers for books are the 2nd-5th graders. I was
considering this for our last fair in early June. I'd really like to hear from
those of you who have used this plan, regardless of the vendor.

Here are my potential issues:
1.Will kids always expect this at every fair,  thereby cutting of a major
source of funding for my purchases?
2. Do you think kids really read more as a result, or do they just get hyped
up about the "free" aspect of this promotion?
3. For those of you using Scholastic...does the stock vary if you request this
plan ahead of time?
4. Would you do this again? Why or why not?

By the way, on the note of Scholastic, I was not that impressed with the IMC
choices in the '99 catalog, especially in software, which had many dated
programs. I'd also like to see a much wider selection of books for older
readers from the Scholastic publishers.  If you feel the same, and we let them
know, perhaps next year's choices will be better. I have a lot of money tied
up in those vouchers, and am somewhat disappointed.
