Election - Classroom Activity Materials for Teachers, Grades 1-12

Free downloadable
hands-on classroom activities, web resources, rubrics and more.

Aligned
     to national standards Organized
     around essential questions Includes
extensions to subjects like ELL, literacy, math, English and art

Our broad range of
original, ready-to-use, grade-specific learning activities and web resources
help you integrate the 2008 election immediately into your classroom, bring it
to life, make it relevant to your students. These materials, developed in
consultation with Lesley University students, alums, and classroom
teachers from around the country, help you use it creatively and effectively.
Each activity is built for student-centered active engagement to maximize your
students' inquiry, involvement and motivation.

An earlier version of these materials in the 2004 election were used in every
state in the US by thousands of teachers. The new
version is even better with new activities and new tools.

Hands-on active lessons is key:

The best way for students to see behind the curtain of media Oz is to
create it themselves. In the Candidate Debates with Spin Room, activity
once students play the role of interpreting and analyzing the candidates and
issues, including as ‘spinners,’ they can immediately grasp it as opinion
rather than fact.

With the Civic Lemonade Stand, when students publicly distribute their
very own class-produced Why Vote? pamphlet they can directly participate
in the political process.
