Carbone, Elisa. Blood on the River : James Town 1607. Viking, 2006
[978-0-670-06060-3]

Samuel Collier was an orphan who becomes servant to Captain John Smith when
he goes to the new world to establish James Town. This 237 page book is
tells the story of the harsh journey, conditions and situation the colonists
met in this new land. It is the tale of two proud cultures and strong
personalities hitting head-on. What is nice in the narrative is that
neither side is held up to be better than the other. This book is an
important piece of historical fiction. There are also some excellent
historical notes by the author at the end of the book.
