If you put F or FIC on your books, you are already deviating from Dewey.
Dewey puts fiction in the 800s. I think that pulling Fiction, some
biography (even biography that technically should be in 920), story
collection, and Easy books is well standardized in school and public
libraries. Perhaps one day someone will have the time and inclination
to create a user-friendly Dewey replacement appropriate for K-12
schools. But we will still have the transferability issue. I think the
solution would be to have a wholesale overhaul of Dewey itself, but can
you imagine the impact that would have on long-existing school
libraries? Can you get vendors to supply cataloging in that format? If
not, do you want to catalog it all yourself? Much bigger issues than
just rearranging the shelves.
