[LM_NET] title needed

I just got a call from a teacher looking for a title based on this description:

A  book similar to Children of the River except the protagonist is a boy  and he 
ends up in Canada.  The nationalities are a combination of  Vietnamese and 
Cambodian or something similar.
She thinks it may have the words Surviving and/or School in the title.

Does it sound familiar to anyone?
