I was recently asked if I could find the title and author of this book that
a friend remembers reading while growing up in the 60's.
Pioneer family heads west, each child is told they can take one thing that
is special to them, the daughter picks a small apple tree so she can make an
apple dumpling for her uncle. The tree (which had a name - Miss Something)
eventually makes it to their new home, bears a few (couple?) small apples,
and just when she's going to pick them, American Indians come and eat most
of them but give her back enough to make a small dumpling.
Please respond off list.
Thanks,
Ellen Rogers
