[LM_NET] Beginning of the year activities?

I would like your thoughts about an idea for the beginning of the year with my 
students. 
Do you all think since I am new to the school to do an activity of getting to know 
the kids?
If you think this is a good idea, does anyone have any thoughts about what I can do 
with children in grades K thru 5?
