As a former member of the Texas TAYSHAS committee, I have experienced this
procedure whereby the TAYSHAS committee has relationships with the publishers who
send the committee members books for review and possible recommendation. A few
years ago, the head of the TAYSHAS committee was responsible for this relationship,
but it has since changed where an officer of the Young Adult Round Table does this
on behalf of the committees. Now, nominations are open from the public and the
administrative assistant contacts publishers for books that they haven't received.
Usually, it's a member of the committee who nominates books and they do this
through true dedication to reading. On this committee, it isn't unusual to read
more than 100 books in a year.
Hope this helps,
Naomi Bates

Hello LM_Netter's,
I am trying to gather information about state reader's choice committees and how
they obtain copies of books to suggest for the lists. I blogged about it today on
SLJ and would appreciate hearing from committee chairs/members here so I can
compose a hit or on the blog in the comments. Remember if you want to put links in
the comments section, you have to leave off the http://
When I was a member of the committees, I struggled to find the newest of the new
titles. Also, I would leave out nonfiction if I wasn't careful. How do you suggest
books? Thanks in advance.
