My advice
fix them 
before you move to any system

We did the work around -- which actually apended the
barcodes with the location code --

the append did not show up on the screen but was
actually writing to the record

needless to say when we changed from that central
system to move to another central system
we had a time and had to rebarcode some books
would have rather done it the first time

also clean up your data

and yes I did that on purpose --- you can never have
it too clean --

I spent thousands of dollars after the first move to a
central system trying to clean up -- you know you
sometimes just don't think the data could be that bad
after all we are professional librarians --
oh how wrong.,,,,

take the time before to standardize your call numbers
-- barcode numbers, etc.

You will be much happier
