[LM_NET] Seeking a title or author

Hello,

I am seeking the title and / or author of a short story that goes
something like this:

A man is in prison and discovers a tunnel from his cell (under a poster,
or bed, or something). He decides to follow it out. It goes aways then
drops steeply downward. He sees a light in the distance. Excitedly he
goes toward it, the tunnel still dropping and slippery - he knows he'll
have a hard time getting back up, if he needs to. Finally, he sees the
moon, but also something white at the end of the tunnel. He gets to the
end and discovers a grate covering the opening of the tunnel - he cannot
get through. Also, it opens high in the center of a steep rock wall,
above the ocean (?). In front of the grate is a bunch of shiny, white
skeleton bones - presumably from others who had tried to escape in this
way in the past.

I'll be grateful for any information you can provide in tracking this
