[LM_NET] Gen" request title of book

Hello,

An ELA teacher came into the library this morning and wanted to know if I knew 
the title of a book that she had read about 5 years ago.  She did give me a 
synopis of the book and here it is: A young girl dreams that she can shape 
shift into different animals. As the story goes along, she realizes that she 
can truly change into different animals and begins to hear the animals speaking 
in the forest.  A terrible Evil is starting to stir in the North. She knows 
that she must fight this evil and shape shifts into different animals as she 
travels North. But with each change, she becomes weaker and she has no strength 
left to defeat the Evil.  She then realizes that she can also shape shift into 
mythological creatures and is then able to deafeat the Evil.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?  I am totally "clueless"
