This is just my second year as a library media specialist (after 15 years in the
classroom) and I want to know if I am making too much of a situation at our
elementary school. Last year, we had two teachers who wouldn't allow their
students to take home their library books. They were afraid that they would lose
them. When I mentioned this to my principal she said, "Oh, well." Now this year,
there are two new teachers (by new I mean this is one's first year teaching and the
other's first year in this grade) working with these teachers and now they won't
let their students take home their library books either. That is about 100
students that aren't allowed to take home their books. I know that some of these
students don't have anything else to read at home and this really bothers me. Lost
books are not a huge problem at our school and I don't want anyone to be without
something to read if they want it. Am I making too big of deal out of this?
Thanks for your
opinions.
