this? It was a big colorful Chinese dragon with
scales to add for books read."
So, to Louise and All of my LM_NET colleagues.
I am choosing to answer this question publicly
because--well--the dragon display is based on my
new book, FIRE UP WITH READING published by
Upstart. www.highsmith.com then click UPSTART BOOKS.
For those of you who know Mrs. Skorupski from her
first book, OUR LIBRARIAN WON'T TELL US ANYTHING,
she is back with more wisdom and more fun. This
time the inimitable Mrs. Skorupski celebrates
reading and literacy with a school wide reading
incentive program that she and Mr. Moriarty, the
principal, announce on the first day of school.
Shy Patty Lee longs to win the contest and dance
in the dragon costume in the Read Across America
Day parade, but cranky Carmen Rosa Peņa is a
strong competitor. They both turn to Mrs.
Skorupski who supplies them with plenty of ideas
for a variety of reading formats, including
audiobooks on CD and mp3 recordings and reading
activities, like reading to other children. The
race is on to see who will be the top reading
class and the top fourth grade reader!
As Louise mentioned, Upstart has done a wonderful
job creating supplementary materials so that
anyone who wants to can duplicate the Fire Up
with Reading program, which is carefully
described in the Library Lessons booklet that accompanies the book.
I'll have the Reader's Theater for it up soon on
my website, but if you need it right now, e-mail me.
Hope you'll enjoy!
Best,
Toni
