Thank you so much for finding and posting this additional information. I read the
first article and thought "Well, this community has just invited a bunch of trouble
for themselves." Then, I read the second article, and yes I'm thinking right about
a bunch of trouble. This whole mess is going to become ugly before they are
through. Policies and procedures are so very nice, and yes as a society we expect
them to be followed. I really laughed about the part of the article discussion the
difficulty of proof that would come from the DA's office to prove the charges
against the teacher, Tierce. It's sad but laughable that a school approved book
could cause charges to be filed against the teacher. If our laws are followed then
these charges can't stick.

Will the law be followed? Will the district behave and followed their own
procedures?

As I become older I become more suspicious. I almost NEVER take anything at face
value, and when it's sensational I simply know there must be more info. I very
quick example happened to me this morning. My daughter was telling me about her
boyfriend's ex-wife and how "sad it is for her trying to have a family. She's had
9 miscarriages in the past 2 years." Well, common sense pretty much tells me that
just isn't true. Yes, she probably experienced multiple miscarriages, but NINE? I
just don't think so. Anyway, I'm very distrusting. And, when I hear about these
types of sensational stories I always know there are additional and more sensible
facts that will come out. Will they come out to the broad public? No, maybe not,
but hopefully Tierce will not lose his career. Then, again, will he want a career
that makes him so vulnerable.

Kudos to the Abilene Reporter News for their well-written and FACT filled
reporting on this issue, especially in the second article below. It's shocking
(though maybe not all that surprising) to see school administrators ignore their
own polices and procedures in their handling of the issue. Hopefully, with the
facts being made known the school board/sheriff's department/distict attorney will
fill the need to correct their errors.

Shonda - congrats on your winning grant proposal, as well!
