The Verizon Foundation is holding its third annual literacy summit on Monday, Oct 
15.  

The American Library Association (ALA) is partnering with the Verizon Foundation, 
Georgetown University, the National Center for Family Literacy, ProLiteracy 
Worldwide, and the National Coalition for Literacy. The Summit will be held from 
1-5 pm at Georgetown University and simultaneously webcast and archived on 
Thinkfinity.org.  To register, go to:

The National Literacy Summit.3  webcast will convene global thought leaders to 
discuss and demonstrate how technology drives the definition of literacy and 
learning required in a competitive global economy. KEYNOTE SPEAKER IS DR. FAREED 
ZAKARIA who will speak about  "Competitive Learning in a Global Economy."

The ALA Office of Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS) would like to know who in 
library land is watching the webcast, who they're watching with -- colleagues, 
community partners, etc, and if the webcast provides a forum for discussion, and 
how you will use the information presented in your library, your school, and your 
community.
