Thank you, Barbara, and our many friends "Down Unda," for helping me to locate a
copy of Ken Catron's book, "Fries." After reading Barbara's activities and
discussion questions (listed in an earlier LM_NET email, see snip below my note), I
was intrigued by this book, which apparently has not made it to the Americas yet!
Finding a copy or two was not an easy task, but finding one at a reasonable price
was. Even Amazon marketplace (US) wanted more than $80 for a new copy. And most of
the Australian bookstores, while reasonable on the book price, were charging
upwards of $40 for shipping. Unbelieveable.
Perhaps we should consider a new fundraiser: start hoarding copies of the OP
books with great lesson plans & activities available, and then sell them for an
exhorbitant price PLUS shipping! N O T !
Barbara, thank you for your above-and-beyond help! You know, it may seem like
every letter ends with accolades for LM_NETters, but when it happens for you, it
truly is a blessing.
Have a great week!

(from Barbara's email)
Although the books listed are Australian (and I have to confess that I am the
author of the activities that go with those listed under the 'New' category with
three more to be uploaded), they can be purchased from the CC. As well, many of
the activities would be easily adaptable to other texts because they are open-ended
and encourage students to think at a variety of levels. They are also categorised
as being suitable for either Years 2-4 or 5-8 but most can be adapted up or down
for the same reason..
The website is http://www1.curriculum.edu.au/rel//values/index.php
There is also a section just focusing on responsibility and that is at
http://www1.curriculum.edu.au/rel//responsibility/intro.htm Currently, I am
working on a new theme of Sustainability and this will be launched early in 2008.
