This week I have been instructing students in selecting "Just Right" books
to read. Book selection is a skill my students need to learn and practice
over time. 15,000+ books to choose from can be overwhelming. Just right
books are not too hard, not too easy, but just right (the Goldilocks theory
for choosing books). We talk about how it is OK to choose too hard, OK to
choose too easy and enjoy and have fun with them and please keep reading
these and all books with your family. We also talk about how just right
books are books we love, interest us, and we learn from. We struggle some,
but not too much. The students and teachers seem to get this and support
this. If anyone is interested in this there is a lot of information on this
practice on the Internet. I also have posters I use and would be happy to
share.

I would be interested if anyone else teaches this, or other book selection
lessons, and techniques you use.
