Hello, LM Net Friends,
I have a one-on-one reading program going on in my school library that pairs
adult volunteer readers (mostly retired teachers from our school) with
students. This program has been running for about five years and it is the
highlight of my day.
I am always thrilled when I find a book that is enjoyable and informative.
My reading partner and I loved Cynthia Rylant's beginning chapter book,
_Good News_ (R 3.7, pts. 0.5). What an outstanding way to introduce my
student to foreign concepts such as Peggy Lee, a record player, a record
album, a typewriter, etc. The vocabulary was rich and the story was
plausible. We made wonderful use of google image, the encyclopedia, and I
brought an album from my collection. This book could inspire a bit of poetry
writing, too.
