Hello All!

I find it interesting, this whole conversation. I am a public school
librarian, K-5 right now, and have never been a classroom teacher. I have
never felt the need to control what my students take once they become
somewhat able to read independently (parents are always welcome to give
their child permission to take any book). I do have classroom teachers who
require their students to only take books they can read and I require that
my students take books of their own choice. Conflict? Not at all. I just
allow my students to take extra books. My students get books they want and
the classroom teacher is happy that the children have books they can read.
Win! Win! Each of us can make this work, just let the students have a few
more books! Good for the circ stats anyway. I have watch so many struggling
readers become great readers in just a few months because they found a book
that really interested them and managed to plug though it. Often they read
the book several times and then want another. It happen to me as a child and
I've seem it repeated many times over the last 31 years I have been working
with children.

Have a great day and let's get those kids reading!
