Given the sponsor, I'm looking for something nefarious slipped in among the
fine print. Here's the only part mentioning libraries in the CRS summary on
Thomas.
Deleting Online Predators Act of 2007 - Amends the Communications Act of
1934 to require schools and libraries that receive universal service support
to enforce a policy that: (1) prohibits access to a commercial social
networking website or chat room unless used for an educational purpose with
adult supervision; and (2) protects against access to visual depictions that
are obscene, child pornography, or harmful to minors.

The library is not a shrine for the worship of books. It is not a temple
where literary incense must be burned or where one's devotion to the bound
book is expressed in ritual. A library, to modify the famous metaphor of
Socrates, should be the delivery room for the birth of ideas - a place where
history comes to life. Norman Cousins

Subject: TARGET: Senate Bill to address Internet safety
My students and I have been following news accounts of the bill recently
introduced by Sen. Ted Stevens in the Senate to address students' online
safety at school. It is supposed to be less restrictive than DOPA but yet
increase safety. I am just wondering what other people think of this bill.
