We held our first Dads' Night Out Tuesday night,
hoping for 25 or 30 dads to show up. Invitations from
a school father/business-owner (on company letterhead)
had gone out with student newsletters.
At least 90 Dads came, each of whom brought at least
one child. A local tavern furnished pizza and hot
wings and the Coca-Cola bottler provided drinks.
Santa Claus led the program by reading Krensky's _How
Santa Got His Job_, a teacher's husband and son acted
out Steig's _Pete's a Pizza_, and two other dads read
Pringle's _Octopus Hug_ and _The Night Before
Christmas_. Between readings we drew names for door
prizes: school t-shirts, books, games, and a personal
CD player. (And I have paperback editions of "Dad"
books for each attender--but the order was delayed!)
The night was covered by two area newspapers and a
local TV station.
We'll be doing this again in the spring--on the
playground instead of in the library!
