I just got a new nonfiction series that is wildly popular with my middle
school students. It is 24/7 Science behind the Scenes by Scholastic
(Watts). I have both the medical files and forensic files and they are
the hottest thing in the library. There is enough "ick" factor to appeal
to this age group, and they have the illustrations and short blocks of
text to appeal to the lower reader as well. All in all, it really hit
the intended target audience. Both boys and girls are reading them,
both gifted and struggling readers. Quite honestly, this is the first
non-fiction series I've ever seen take off like this one. NAYY--just
one amazed librarian.
