[LM_NET] ALSC blog - Native Americans

Good morning,

Yesterday, one of the bloggers at ALSC asked me 
to write a post for their blog. I was glad to do 
so. It provided me with the opportunity to talk 
about my blog, why I do it, etc.

And, it provided me with an opportunity to say 
some things that I hope assuage the anger and 
fear that some people feel when they read the 
things I write about the ways that we teach 
children about American Indians. November is an 
especially emotionally-charged month. Teachers 
and librarians are good people who care about 
children. Unfortunately, most of us were not 
well-trained with regard to the ways that we 
teach about American Indians. As a result, we 
"teach" stereotypes, biased and erroneous 
material without knowing that it is that way.
